Honeymoon Island state park, Florida
Near one of our remote offices, we have Honeymoon Island state park. Beaches, double track and lots of sand. Deep, sugar sand that’s work to push through, but so rewarding. The faster we go, the easier it is floating on the fine grains of sand. Tired legs and going slower is a real test.
Just a 15 minute drive and we’re in one of the most beautiful places I’ve experienced. Bay, ocean, pines, palms, sand, more sand, ospreys and bald eagles - paradise if you have a fat bike or anything with WIDE tires.
After unloading from our AntiMatter bike rack, we set off - intentionally with no map. Our goal was to explore every tree we could fit our bike between and was ridable (and legal) - twice.
After 45-minutes we had a good map in our brains of the parks layout. Then we realized it’s big. Bigger than we want to ride :)
We found abandoned huts from some attraction from a long time ago, tortoise, egrets, sand, bald eagles, ospreys, sand, an abandoned surf board, and more sand.
A quick dip in the Gulf of Mexico to cool off, then back to the truck. Loading back onto the AntiMatter bike rack took no more than 60 seconds, then back home.
